When wondering how to apply to a commercial drivers license, applicants need to know that the procedure must be performed only through the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). However, motorists are required to choose their class of CDL before they can apply. The FLHSMV issues three classes of CDL licenses: Class A, B and C. The CDL license requirements may slightly vary depending on the class of CDL that motorists apply for.
Florida CDL drivers license applicants may be exempt from satisfying the CDL requirements if they are drivers of authorized emergency vehicles, military members operating military motor vehicles, farmers, drivers of recreational vehicles, drivers of straight trucks or employees of publicly owned transit system. Choosing the appropriate CDL endorsements is the next step after satisfying the imposed CDL requirements or proving to be exempt from meeting them. The FLHSMV allows the following commercial drivers license endorsements to be placed on a Class A, B or C license: H, N, P, S, T and X.
